Iron group metals

19 12 02 Ferrous metals

whyneed

The waste of ferrous metals that arises as a result of mechanical processing is one of the most significant problems for modern industry. Sorting, crushing, compaction and granulation processes generate a significant amount of waste, which, if not managed properly, can lead to serious environmental and social problems. In this article, we will consider the main aspects of the problem related to the management of ferrous metal waste, as well as offer effective ways to reduce harm to the environment and human health.

Ferrous metals, which include iron and its alloys, are essential materials in many industries. In the process of their processing, significant volumes of waste are generated, including metal residues, shavings, dust and other by-products. These wastes require specialized operations for collection, sorting, crushing and processing to prevent their accumulation and further pollution of the environment.

Lack of proper management of ferrous metal waste leads to air, soil and water pollution. Waste left without proper treatment may contain dangerous impurities that pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health. This especially applies to residues containing heavy metals and toxic substances that can enter the soil and water resources.

An important aspect of this problem is also the need to transport ferrous metal waste, as it is often generated at large industrial enterprises and must be transported to specialized sites for further processing. This creates additional costs and risks associated with the transportation of hazardous materials. Services for waste management, collection and processing: Ferrous metals, NPV code 19 12 02.

Black metals. Code according to the National List of Waste 19 12 02. Operations according to Appendices 1, 2 to the Law of Ukraine "On Waste Management" D13.

A pity for the environment and people

howutilize

Ferrous metals, in the case of improper waste management, can cause serious damage to the environment. One of the main aspects is soil and water pollution by heavy metals contained in waste. These substances can accumulate in ecosystems, which leads to a violation of the natural balance and the death of fauna and flora.

Emissions of dust and shavings of ferrous metals into the air can also negatively affect the quality of atmospheric air, causing problems with the respiratory system in people and animals. Heavy metals contained in dust can settle on the surface of the earth, entering water and the food chain, which threatens not only natural ecosystems, but also human health.

The operations of collecting, sorting, crushing and processing ferrous metal waste can be a source of significant noise pollution, adversely affecting local populations and wildlife. This type of pollution is often underestimated, but it can have serious consequences for the ecology of the region.

Pity for people

Ferrous metal waste containing heavy metals and other toxic substances can pose a serious threat to human health. They can cause a variety of diseases, including respiratory diseases, allergies, as well as chronic diseases associated with long-term exposure to toxic substances.

Another important problem is the risk of injury at industrial enterprises, where operations for collecting, sorting, crushing and processing ferrous metal waste are carried out. High levels of noise, dust and dangerous working conditions can lead to accidents and illnesses among workers.

Ferous metal residues, if not properly transported and processed, can pose a threat to the population living near industrial areas. Air and water pollution with heavy metals can lead to a decrease in the quality of life, as well as an increase in the level of morbidity among the population.

Ways to reduce harm

whyneed

In order to reduce the negative impact of ferrous metal waste on the environment and human health, it is necessary to apply modern methods of ecological management of ferrous metal waste. This includes the use of advanced technologies for harvesting, sorting, crushing and processing  (D13) of waste, as well as proper transportation of ferrous metal waste to specialized sites.

An important component of environmental management of ferrous metal waste is the development and implementation of pollution monitoring programs that allow for timely detection and elimination of pollution sources. This helps prevent negative consequences for the environment and human health, and also reduces the risks associated with the transportation of hazardous materials.

Proper organization of operations for collection, sorting, crushing and processing of ferrous metal waste also allows reducing noise and dust pollution, which positively affects the working conditions of workers and the life of the local population.

Companies involved in the management of ferrous metal waste must constantly improve their processes and apply the best available technologies to reduce the negative impact on the environment and human health.
