Waste generated in the process of production, preparation, supply and use of nitrogenous compounds and fertilizers is a serious environmental problem. These wastes include chemical residues, excess fertilizers, sludges, and other byproducts that often contaminate soils, water resources, and air. Nitrogen compounds such as ammonia, nitrates and nitrites have high mobility in the environment, which leads to their distribution over long distances and penetration into water bodies.

A large amount of waste occurs due to imperfect production technologies, unregulated use of chemicals and lack of effective recycling methods.
