Waste of mixed metals

16 12 19 Mixed metals

whyneed

In the conditions of modern armed conflicts and acts of terrorism, the problem of the generation of mixed metal waste is growing. This waste is formed due to the damage and destruction of buildings and structures, which leads to a significant accumulation of metal fragments, alloys and structural elements that are difficult to dispose of and reuse. Mixed metal waste contains various metals, including iron, copper, aluminum, nickel, zinc, lead and others, which makes their processing and further use difficult.

Mixed metals formed due to the destruction of buildings during hostilities and acts of terrorism pose a serious problem for the environment and public health. This waste is the result of the physical destruction of building materials, metal structures, power lines and other infrastructure elements. Since these wastes include various metals with different chemical properties, their processing becomes extremely difficult.

The main problems associated with mixed metals include:

  • complexity of sorting due to mixing of different metals;
  • high risk of environmental pollution due to corrosion and chemical reactions;
  • danger to people's health due to contact with toxic elements;
  • reusability is limited due to contamination and physical damage to metals.

The problem is also compounded by the lack of effective methods of collecting and transporting mixed metal waste, which leads to its uncontrolled accumulation in war zones or spontaneous landfills. Services for waste management, collection and processing: Mixed metals Code of NPV 16 12 19.

Mixed metals. Code in accordance with the National List of Waste 16 12 19. Operations in accordance with Appendices 1, 2 to the Law of Ukraine "On Waste Management" D13, D15.

A pity for the environment and people

howutilize

Mixed metal wastes pose a serious threat to the environment as they can cause various forms of pollution. Due to the lack of proper treatment and management, this waste can cause long-term consequences for ecosystems and natural resources.

The main environmental risks associated with mixed metal waste:

  • corrosion of metals, which leads to soil and water pollution;
  • release of toxic substances into the air during corrosion processes;
  • loss of biodiversity due to pollution of natural environments;
  • accumulation of heavy metals in the food chain, which affects the health of animals and people.

Environmental management of mixed metal waste should be a priority for states and organizations operating in conflict zones. Failure to take appropriate measures can lead to long-term negative consequences for the environment, which will be difficult to correct in the future.

Pity for people

Mixed metal waste also poses a significant threat to the health of people, especially those who live or work in areas affected by hostilities or terrorist acts. Metals included in this waste can be toxic and cause serious diseases.

Human hazards include:

  • contact with heavy metals such as lead and mercury, which can cause poisoning and chronic diseases;
  • emission of toxic vapors during burning or corrosion of metals, which can cause respiratory diseases;
  • accumulation of heavy metals in the body through the food chain, which leads to malfunctions of internal organs;
  • risk of physical injury due to contact with sharp or heavy metal fragments.

Long-term exposure to people living in war zones or working with metal waste is especially dangerous. The lack of proper protective equipment and the unavailability of medical care increase these risks.

Ways to reduce harm

whyneed

Mitigating the harm from mixed metal waste requires an integrated approach that includes environmental management, modern technology and public participation. One of the main aspects is the correct organization of operations for collection, sorting, crushing and processing (D13) of mixed metal waste, which will reduce risks to the environment and human health.

The main measures that can be applied:

  • implementation of a mixed metal waste sorting system for further processing or safe storage (D15);
  • application of specialized technologies for crushing and processing of metals in order to reduce their volume and toxicity;
  • organization of safe transportation of mixed metal waste to the places of their further processing;
  • development of programs for environmental management of mixed metal waste, taking into account the specifics of hostilities and other emergency situations.

It is also important to involve the public in the mixed metal waste management process, which will contribute to increased environmental awareness and a responsible attitude to the problem.

Environmental management of hazardous waste in Ukraine is a difficult task. We have been looking for a reliable company for a long time. We decided to work only with this company, because a license for the transportation of hazardous waste is an indicator of trust. One of the few companies that has permits for environmental waste management. One of the few companies that you can work with without fear.
