13 02 Waste of motor and industrial oils and lubricants
Waste of motor, industrial oils and lubricants is one of the most dangerous categories of waste that is constantly accumulating in industry and the transport industry. Every year, a huge amount of oils and lubricants are used in the world for various purposes: from engine oils to specialized industrial oils. However, after use, these products become waste containing various toxic compounds and can seriously harm the environment and human health.
The main problem is that many waste motor and industrial oils cannot be easily disposed of and cannot be destroyed without harming nature. They often contain heavy metals, polychlorinated biphenyls, sulfur and other dangerous components that can enter the soil, water and air, causing serious environmental disasters. Improper management of such waste can lead to its accumulation in landfills, where it subsequently enters the environment.
The problem of illegal dumping of used oils and lubricants deserves special attention. This phenomenon is becoming more frequent due to the high cost of proper disposal and the lack of sufficient control. Many companies simply pour this waste into the ground or water, which leads to long-term environmental pollution. This problem is global, but its impact is particularly visible in countries with low levels of environmental responsibility and weak legislation. Services for waste management, collection and processing: Waste of motor, industrial oils and lubricants Code NPV 13 02.
Waste of motor, industrial oils and lubricants. Code in accordance with the National List of Waste 13 02. Operations in accordance with Appendices 1, 2 to the Law of Ukraine "On Waste Management" D8, D13, D10.
A pity for the environment and people
Waste motor and industrial oils have a long-term negative impact on the environment. Their composition often contains heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury and zinc, which can enter the soil and water, polluting them for decades. Heavy metals are dangerous because they accumulate in living organisms, causing toxic effects at various levels of the food chain.
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), sometimes present in olive oil, are among the most toxic compounds that can cause serious problems for aquatic ecosystems. PCBs are highly resistant to decomposition, which makes them particularly dangerous for the environment. They can accumulate in fish, birds and other animals, which ultimately affects human health.
In addition to heavy metals and PCBs, oils contain various organic pollutants, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are carcinogenic and can cause mutations in living organisms. These pollutants have the ability to accumulate in animal fats and be transmitted through the food chain. Thus, motor oil waste is not only a local problem, but also a global threat to the biosphere.
Pity for people
The impact of motor and industrial oil waste on human health is extremely serious. Heavy metals in waste can cause various diseases, including cancer, neurological disorders, kidney and liver problems. For example, lead, which is often present in waste oils, can lead to developmental delays in children, a decrease in intellectual level, as well as cardiovascular diseases in adults.
Polychlorinated biphenyls, present in some types of olives, are also extremely dangerous for humans. They can cause cancer, immune system disorders, reproductive problems and other serious diseases. The danger is that these compounds can accumulate in the human body, gradually poisoning it over a long period of time.
In addition, oils contain various organic pollutants that have carcinogenic properties. For example, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons can cause cancer of the skin, lungs and other organs. They can also cause mutations in cells, which leads to the development of various types of cancer.
Ways to reduce harm
Reducing damage from motor and industrial oil waste is an important task that requires a comprehensive approach. One of the most effective methods is the application of environmental management methods of waste motor, industrial oils and lubricants. This includes the collection, sorting, crushing and processing of waste (D13), which allows to reduce its toxicity and facilitate further processing.
Environmental management of waste motor, industrial oils and lubricants also includes their transportation to specialized facilities for further treatment or destruction (D10). Correct transportation of waste motor, industrial oils and lubricants is critically important, as any violation during transportation can lead to the spillage of hazardous substances and environmental pollution.
In order to reduce the damage, it is also necessary to introduce modern technologies for processing waste motor and industrial oils. This includes the use of biological methods (D8) of treatment, which allow the decomposition of organic pollutants into safe components. In addition, it is important to raise the level of awareness among the population and businesses regarding the need for proper waste management.
Management of waste motor, industrial oils and lubricants can only be effective if strict standards and regulations are followed. Companies collecting and processing such waste must be responsible for its safe disposal and be responsible for any environmental violations.
