Zinc solid waste

Hot-dip galvanizing processes are important for protecting metal products from corrosion, but they also generate significant amounts of solid zinc waste. These wastes consist of various fractions of zinc and other impurities formed during the immersion of the metal in molten zinc. Describing this problem is important for understanding how these wastes can affect the environment and human health, as well as for developing effective methods for their management. Wastes from hot-dip galvanizing processes contain various fractions of zinc, which may include zinc dust, oxidized zinc particles, and other impurities. During hot-dip galvanizing, metal products are immersed in a bath of molten zinc, which allows a protective layer to form on their surface. However, during this process, a significant part of the zinc is deposited as waste, which requires further treatment and storage. The main problems associated with this waste include:

• accumulation of significant volumes of waste at industrial sites;
• risk of soil and water pollution;
• potential danger to the health of workers and the population.
