whyneed

Vehicles of various types, including end-of-life off-road vehicles, become a significant source of waste. One of the most important components of such waste is plastics. Plastics are widely used in modern cars due to their lightness, durability and low cost. However, after the end-of-life of vehicles, plastics become a challenge for environmental waste management. The main problem is that plastics do not decompose naturally, which leads to the accumulation of a huge amount of waste in the environment.

Every year, millions of tons of plastics are produced in the world, a large part of which ends up in vehicles. As cars are retired, there is a problem with the disposal of these plastic components. They contain different types of plastics, including polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other polymers, each of which has its own unique properties, but they all share one common problem: they are difficult to recycle.

In addition, the process of dismantling vehicles to extract plastic components is often time-consuming and requires specialized equipment. This complicates the management of plastic waste at this stage. The operations of collecting, sorting, crushing and processing waste plastics are becoming important elements in the ecological management of waste plastics, but without a proper approach they can cause significant damage to the environment.

Plastics in vehicles are used for a variety of purposes, from body panels to interior elements. Thanks to their versatility, they have become an integral part of the automotive industry. However, when these vehicles break down and need to be scrapped, the question becomes: what to do with all that plastic? Most of them are not recyclable or require expensive and complex processes to be reused. This leads to the accumulation of a huge amount of waste, which poses a serious threat to the environment. Services for waste management, collection and processing: Plastics, NPV code 16 01 19.

A pity for the environment and people

howutilize

Plastic waste left after the dismantling of vehicles has a long-term negative impact on the environment. Plastics that cannot be recycled end up in landfills, where they can remain for centuries without decomposing. These materials can enter natural water systems, resulting in water pollution. There is also a risk that chemicals used in the production of plastics can leach into the soil and enter the groundwater, posing a threat to the entire ecosystem.

Plastic pollution in aquatic environments is one of the biggest environmental problems of today. Microplastics, formed as a result of the breakdown of larger pieces of plastic, can accumulate in the bodies of aquatic organisms, which, in turn, affects the entire food chain. As a result, people who consume fish and seafood can be exposed to toxic substances contained in plastic.

Transportation of plastic waste is also a serious problem. Insufficiently safe and improper transportation methods can lead to additional environmental pollution, especially when it comes to microplastics, which are easily carried by air currents and water over long distances. Methods of environmental management of plastic waste must include strict control at all stages, from collection to final processing.

Landfills that store plastic waste can also contribute to the formation of harmful substances, such as methane and toxic gases produced by the decomposition of other organic waste. These gases can contribute to the greenhouse effect and air pollution.

In addition, uncontrolled burning of plastics can release dioxins and furans – one of the most dangerous chemical compounds known for their high toxicity and long half-life. These substances can pollute soil and water, which leads to their further entry into the food chain.

Pity for people

Plastics contained in waste from vehicles pose a serious threat to human health. They can release toxic substances when heated or burned, which can lead to a number of diseases, including respiratory and cancer diseases. In addition, microplastics, which are formed in the process of crushing and processing plastic waste, can get into food, water and air, which leads to the accumulation of toxic substances in the human body.

Microplastics entering the human body through water, air or food can cause various diseases. Studies show that these particles can cause inflammation of tissues, allergic reactions, and also be the cause of the development of chronic diseases. In addition, plastics often contain chemical additives such as plasticizers, stabilizers, and dyes that may have carcinogenic or other harmful properties.

People working in the field of plastic waste management are often exposed to these hazardous substances, which makes it necessary to use proper protective equipment and follow sanitary standards. Without proper protection, workers can suffer from poisoning, respiratory problems and other serious illnesses.

In addition, chemicals used in the production of plastics can affect the human endocrine system, causing hormonal disruptions that can lead to infertility, the development of certain types of cancer and other serious diseases.

Ways to reduce harm

whyneed

Reducing the harm from plastic waste can be achieved through an integrated approach to managing this waste. Methods of environmental management of plastic waste include a number of measures, such as:

  • collection and sorting of plastic waste at vehicle dismantling sites;
  • use of modern equipment for crushing and grinding plastics, which allows to reduce the volume of waste;
  • application of plastics processing technologies (R5), which allow materials to be reused in other industries;
  • introduction of innovative methods of cleaning plastic waste from toxic substances;
  • control over the transportation of plastic waste in compliance with all environmental standards.

Effective management of plastic waste will contribute to reducing the negative impact on the environment and human health. Special attention should be paid to the operations of collecting, sorting, crushing and processing (D13) plastic waste, because it is at these stages that the greatest risks arise.

Some technologies make it possible to turn plastic waste into secondary raw materials that can be used for the production of new products. This approach reduces the need to produce new plastics and, accordingly, reduces the amount of waste. In addition, plastic processing allows you to save natural resources, reducing the negative impact on the environment.

Another important step is to raise public awareness of the problem of plastic waste and the need for proper management. Information campaigns can help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and increase the level of plastic recycling.

It is also important to stimulate the development of innovative technologies that allow reducing the amount of plastic waste or making it more environmentally friendly. These can be new materials that decompose faster, or new processing methods that reduce the harmful impact on the environment.

For us, it was critical to have permits for waste management. We didn't contact them right away and wasted time on other contractors, which we regret. It would have been better to contact them right away. One of the few companies that has permits for environmental waste management. It's always a pleasure to work with such a company. I recommend them.
