Vehicles of various types, including end-of-life off-road vehicles, become a significant source of waste. One of the most important components of such waste is plastics. Plastics are widely used in modern cars due to their lightness, durability and low cost. However, after the end-of-life of vehicles, plastics become a challenge for environmental waste management. The main problem is that plastics do not decompose naturally, which leads to the accumulation of a huge amount of waste in the environment.

Every year, millions of tons of plastics are produced in the world, a large part of which ends up in vehicles. As cars are retired, there is a problem with the disposal of these plastic components. Special attention should be paid to the operations of collecting, sorting, crushing and processing (D13) plastic waste, because it is at these stages that the greatest risks arise.

Some technologies make it possible to turn plastic waste into secondary raw materials that can be used for the production of new products. This approach reduces the need to produce new plastics and, accordingly, reduces the amount of waste.
