Other brake shoes, not classified under code 16 01 11

Brake pads are one of the most important elements of any vehicle, as they are responsible for ensuring safety on the road. However, when they fail, there is a need to properly manage this waste. Brake pads, which do not fall under the classification under code 16 01 11, deserve special attention. These wastes have their own characteristics that require responsible environmental management.

Brake pads, other than those listed under code 16 01 11, represent a special category of waste. The main problem is that these pads do not have a clear regulation and classification, which makes it difficult to manage them properly. They may contain dangerous substances that require a special approach for their collection, sorting and processing.

Most brake pads contain metals, composite materials and other elements that can harm the environment and human health. However, the lack of a clear classification of these wastes complicates the development of effective methods of their disposal. As a result, this waste can end up in landfills or simply remain without proper control, leading to serious environmental problems.

It should also be noted that there is not yet a sufficient number of enterprises in Ukraine that are able to effectively carry out operations of collection, sorting, crushing and processing of brake pad waste other than those specified under code 16 01 11. Reducing the damage caused by waste brake pads other than those specified under code 16 01 11 is possible through the implementation of effective environmental management methods. This involves the correct collection, sorting and processing (D13) of these wastes with the minimization of the negative impact on the environment and human health.

Basic steps to take to reduce damage:

• implementation of specialized technologies for safe collection and transportation of waste brake pads other than those listed under code 16 01 11;
• creation of a control and monitoring system for handling these wastes;
• development and implementation of new technologies for processing waste brake pads that do not fall under the classification under code 16 01 11;
• attracting the public and business to actively participate in the management of brake pad waste other than those listed under code 16 01 11.
