Hazardous waste management in the city of Monastyryska, Ternopil region is an important task for ensuring environmental safety and preserving natural resources. Monastyryskie does not have its own toxic materials processing plant, so most of the waste is transported to neighboring regions. It is planned to attract investments to create a local hazardous substances processing center.

Public awareness of the rules for handling hazardous waste needs to be improved. Only 37% of city residents are aware of the existence of specialized toxic materials collection points. However, additional efforts are needed to inform the population and implement environmental education programs.

Thanks to funding in 2023, the city received 1.5 million hryvnias to upgrade the infrastructure for the collection and transportation of hazardous substances. The plans include the implementation of an electronic accounting system for toxic waste and the expansion of a network of mobile reception points.

Preventing illegal handling of hazardous waste is one of the main tasks for Monastyrysk. In 2023, 8 cases of illegal dumping of toxic materials in forest belts and on the outskirts of the city were recorded. To combat this phenomenon, it is planned to strengthen environmental control, install video surveillance cameras in problem areas, and increase fines for violations of environmental legislation.
