whyneed

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is one of the fastest growing categories of waste in the world. This equipment contains various dangerous substances, such as mercury, lead, cadmium and others, which can cause significant damage to the environment and human health. Wastes other than those specified under codes 20 01 21, 20 01 23 and 20 01 35 include household waste (household waste) and similar waste from commercial organizations, industrial enterprises and institutions. They represent a significant challenge for modern society.

The increase in the volume of electronic equipment has led to a sharp increase in the amount of waste. WEEE that does not fall under categories 20 01 21, 20 01 23 and 20 01 35 includes a wide range of items such as household appliances, computers, mobile phones, lighting devices, etc. The problem is that this waste often contains dangerous chemicals that, if mishandled, can end up in soil, water or the atmosphere.

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that most domestic and commercial users are unaware of the dangers these wastes can pose. The lack of proper management and insufficient knowledge about methods of environmental management of waste electrical and electronic equipment other than those specified under codes 20 01 21, 20 01 23 and 20 01 35 lead to significant environmental problems. Waste management, collection and processing services: Waste electrical and electronic equipment other than those specified under the codes 20 01 21, 20 01 23 and 20 01 35. The NPV code 20 01 36.

Waste of electrical and electronic equipment other than those listed under codes 20 01 21, 20 01 23 and 20 01 35. Code according to the National list of waste 20 01 36. Operations according to Appendices 1, 2 to the Law of Ukraine "On waste management" D13.

A pity for the environment and people

howutilize

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) contains numerous hazardous components that can cause serious damage to the environment. For example, lead found in many electronic devices can leach into soil and aquifers, contaminating water supplies. Cadmium, often used in batteries, is a highly toxic metal that can harm plants, animals, and humans.

Environmental management of waste electrical and electronic equipment other than those specified under codes 20 01 21, 20 01 23 and 20 01 35 is extremely important to preserve natural resources and prevent environmental pollution. Improper management of these wastes can lead to serious environmental disasters, including soil and water poisoning, ecosystem destruction and biodiversity loss.

Pity for people

Waste electrical and electronic equipment can pose a significant danger to people's health. When electronic equipment breaks down or is improperly processed, toxic substances can be released into the atmosphere or enter the soil and water. This can lead to the development of various diseases, including respiratory diseases, disorders of the nervous system and oncological diseases.

Especially dangerous are the fumes emitted during the burning of WEEE. These fumes may contain dioxins and furans, which are among the most dangerous environmental pollutants and can cause serious illness in people exposed to them. In addition, constant contact with hazardous materials such as mercury or cadmium can lead to chronic diseases and poisoning.

Ways to reduce harm

whyneed

Reduction of damage from WEEE is possible by implementing effective methods of waste management and processing. One of the main ways is to improve the environmental management of waste electrical and electronic equipment other than those specified under codes 20 01 21, 20 01 23 and 20 01 35. This includes the use of advanced technologies for the safe collection, sorting, transport and treatment of this waste.

The operations of collection, sorting, crushing and treatment (D13) of waste electrical and electronic equipment must be organized in such a way as to minimize the impact on the environment and human health. This may include the introduction of extended producer responsibility (EPR), which obliges producers not only to be responsible for products throughout their entire life cycle, but also to ensure their safe neutralization.

Society also plays a key role in solving this problem. Raising awareness among the population about the danger posed by WEEE and the importance of ecological management of this waste is an extremely important step in preventing environmental disasters.
