Used equipment with chlorofluorocarbon compounds

Worn equipment containing chlorofluorocarbons is a serious environmental problem. Today, most businesses and households use a variety of equipment that eventually becomes unusable. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) — is a group of chemical compounds widely used in refrigerators, air conditioners and other cooling systems. Their properties allow for efficient heat transfer, however, when this equipment becomes worn out, the problem of proper processing of hazardous substances arises.

The problem with worn equipment containing CFCs is that these chemicals can be very harmful to the environment and human health. If such equipment is mishandled, CFCs can enter the atmosphere, where they contribute to the destruction of the ozone layer and cause global warming. Due to their physical and chemical properties, these substances remain in the environment for a long time, which complicates their natural degradation.

Used equipment containing chlorofluorocarbons is also a serious hazard when stored and transported. Inadequately trained workers can accidentally break the system's tightness, which will lead to the leakage of dangerous substances. In addition, the storage of such equipment without proper protection can cause soil and water pollution.

There are several ways to reduce damage from worn equipment containing chlorofluorocarbons. First of all, it is important to ensure proper management of hazardous waste. Methods of environmental management of hazardous waste of worn equipment containing chlorofluorocarbons include a number of measures aimed at reducing the impact on the environment and human health.

Main activities include:

• proper storage of worn equipment containing chlorofluorocarbons;
• control over the tightness of systems;
• collection, sorting, crushing and processing of hazardous waste;
• ecological transportation of hazardous waste.

Methods for the environmental management of hazardous waste from worn equipment containing chlorofluorocarbons include the development of new technologies for the treatment of such waste. For example, special filtration systems and chemical methods that allow reducing emissions of chlorofluorocarbons into the atmosphere. It is also important to provide training to workers engaged in the dismantling and storage of such equipment in safe work methods.
