Waste equipment with hazardous components not included in codes 16 02 09 - 16 02 12

The problem of equipment waste with dangerous components not included in codes 16 02 09 - 16 02 12 is becoming more and more relevant in the conditions of the modern world. These wastes pose a serious threat to the environment and human health, requiring the development and implementation of effective management methods. Methods of environmental management of hazardous waste equipment containing hazardous components, other than those specified under codes 16 02 09 to 16 02 12, require special attention.

Equipment containing hazardous components consists of various materials and elements that can cause significant damage to both the environment and human health. It can be electronic devices, medical equipment, industrial machines and much more. The problem is that after the end of their service life, these elements become waste containing dangerous substances such as heavy metals, chemical compounds, and other toxic components.

Equipment waste may include various categories of hazardous substances that require special treatment and storage methods (R13). These categories include:

• heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury);
• organic compounds (PCB, PCT);
• acids and bases;
• explosive substances;
• biologically active substances.

The danger of these wastes lies not only in their composition, but also in the fact that they can emit toxic fumes and gases that can enter the air and water resources. For example, mercury is one of the most dangerous heavy metals that can enter soil and water, causing serious environmental problems.

The problem is compounded by the fact that the equipment is not always subject to proper management and handling. Insufficient knowledge about methods of environmental management of hazardous waste leads to their unauthorized disposal or improper storage, which increases the risks to the environment and human health. Waste management systems do not always take into account the specifics of such materials, which leads to their accumulation and increased threat.

In addition, the problem of waste equipment with hazardous components is often neglected due to the lack of clear regulations and monitoring of their implementation. This leads to the fact that many companies do not pay enough attention to the environmental management of their waste, which causes an even greater environmental threat.

In order to reduce the damage from hazardous waste equipment, it is necessary to implement comprehensive methods (R4) of environmental management. This includes both collection and sorting, as well as transportation and processing of waste using modern technologies.

Methods of environmental management of hazardous waste from equipment containing hazardous components, other than those specified under codes 16 02 09 to 16 02 12, include:

• collection and sorting of waste for further safe processing;
• use of modern technologies for crushing and processing of hazardous waste;
• creation of specialized landfills for safe storage of hazardous waste;
• transportation of hazardous waste in accordance with all regulatory requirements and safety standards;
• raising awareness and training employees on safety and environmental management.
