Hazardous paints, inks, adhesives and resins

Paints, inks, adhesives, and resins are an integral part of modern life, and are widely used in a variety of industries, from construction and repair to art and printing. However, most of these materials contain dangerous substances that can cause significant damage to both the environment and human health.

The main problem is that hazardous substances contained in these materials, such as solvents, heavy metals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), can enter the air, water and soil during production, use these materials. This creates a risk of environmental pollution and can have serious consequences for ecosystems and public health.

The complexity of the problem is compounded by the fact that many people are unaware of the dangers these substances can pose. Improper handling of waste paints, inks, adhesives and resins can lead to them ending up in landfills or other inappropriate places where they can pollute the environment for a long time.

In order to reduce harm from paints, inks, glues and resins containing hazardous substances, it is necessary to apply a comprehensive approach that includes both technological and organizational measures. Here are some of them:

• use of environmentally friendly materials:; replacing hazardous substances in paints, inks, adhesives and resins with less toxic or non-toxic alternatives can significantly reduce the level of environmental pollution and the risk to human health;
• development and implementation of new technologies (D15): production of paints, inks, glues and resins using the latest technologies, which allow to reduce emissions of hazardous substances into the air, water and soil;
• improvement of environmental management methods: methods of environmental management of hazardous paint, ink, glue, and resin waste that contain hazardous substances include systems for collecting, sorting, crushing, and processing these wastes that allow reducing their impact on the environment (D10);
• strengthening control and regulation: introducing stricter norms and standards regarding the use of hazardous substances in paints, inks, glues and resins, as well as strengthening control over compliance with these norms;
• awareness raising: informing the population about the dangers that paints, inks, glues and resins containing hazardous substances can pose, and about the need for their proper handling.
