Filtrate from landfills is one of the most serious environmental problems that arise in the process of operating landfills. This type of liquid is formed due to seepage of precipitation and other liquids through layers of debris. The filtrate is chemically complex, contains various harmful substances, including heavy metals, organic and inorganic compounds, which pose a threat to the environment and human health. However, there are different types of leachate and not all of them are covered by the standards specified in code 19 07 02. This article will consider the problem of managing landfill leachate other than that specified in code 19 07 02 and its impact on the environment and people.

Filtrate from landfills is formed as a result of complex chemical and physical processes that occur in the body of the landfill. In the process of decomposition of organic materials, under the action of microorganisms, a large number of harmful substances appear, which enter the water that seeps through the garbage. The filtrate may contain such dangerous elements as lead, cadmium, mercury, as well as organic compounds that are toxic to living organisms.

One ​​of the main problems is that this leachate is not always properly treated. The lack of effective leachate collection and processing systems can lead to its leakage into groundwater or directly into reservoirs, which causes pollution of water resources. A special danger is leachate that does not meet the characteristics specified in code 19 07 02, since special methods and technologies are required for its processing. The main problems related to the management of leachate from landfills other than those listed under code 19 07 02:

• complexity of determining the chemical composition and toxicity of the leachate;

• monitoring of the state of groundwater and soils around landfills;
• introduction of environmental standards for landfill management.

Methods of environmental management of leachate waste from landfills other than those specified under code 19 07 02 include the use of physico-chemical (D9) cleaning methods such as filtration, coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation. This allows reducing the concentration of harmful substances in the filtrate to acceptable standards.

Environmental management of leachate waste from landfills other than that specified under code 19 07 02 also involves the use of biological (D8)  cleaning methods based on the use of microorganisms to decompose organic substances. This allows to reduce the toxicity of the leachate and make it less dangerous for the environment.

Operations for collection, sorting, crushing and processing (D13) of leachate waste from landfills other than those specified under code 19 07 02 must be carried out taking into account all environmental requirements in order to minimize risks to the environment and health 39; I of people.

Transportation of leachate waste from landfills other than those specified under code 19 07 02 must be carried out in sealed containers, which prevents leaks and the spread of contamination during transportation.
