09 01 Photographic activity waste
Photographic activity has always occupied an important place in the culture and technological development of mankind. However, despite its numerous advantages, the process of creating images is accompanied by the formation of significant volumes of waste. This waste has a negative impact on the environment and human health, which makes waste management of photographic activity an extremely urgent issue.
Waste from photographic activity occurs at various stages of the image creation and processing process. These wastes include chemicals, metals, plastics, paper and other materials used in photographic processes. The main problem is that most of these materials are toxic in nature and do not undergo natural decomposition, which makes them long-lasting environmental pollutants.
In general, several main sources of photographic waste can be identified:
- spent chemical solutions used for developing and fixing images;
- remnants of photographic paper and film;
- metal waste, in particular silver used in photographic emulsions;
- plastic containers and other packages used for storing chemicals;
- electronic waste from digital imaging devices.
Methods of ecological waste management of photographic activities require careful analysis of each stage at which this waste is generated, and the development of effective methods of its collection, sorting, crushing and processing. Waste management, collection and processing services: Photographic activity waste Code of NPV 09 01
Waste of photographic activity. Code according to the National List of Waste 09 01. Operations according to Appendices 1, 2 to the Law of Ukraine "On Waste Management" D13.
A pity for the environment and people
Waste from photographic activities can have a serious negative impact on the environment. One of the most dangerous components is the chemicals used in the photo processing process. These substances can penetrate into the soil and aquifers, contaminating water resources and soils. Especially dangerous are heavy metals, such as silver and mercury, which can accumulate in organisms and lead to chain environmental disasters.
In addition to chemical pollution, a significant problem is the accumulation of solid waste such as photographic paper and film. These materials contain plastics that take hundreds of years to decompose and can release toxic substances during that time. Environmental management of waste from photographic activities aims to reduce the impact of this waste on nature through the development and implementation of environmentally safe technologies.
Among other threats caused by the waste of photographic activity, we can highlight:
- decrease in water quality due to penetration of chemicals into water bodies;
- reduction of soil fertility due to chemical pollution;
- increasing volumes of solid waste, which occupy significant areas in landfills;
- diffusion of dangerous chemicals due to atmospheric phenomena (wind, rain);
- accumulation of heavy metals in plants and animals, which can lead to ecological disasters.
Pity for people
Waste from photographic activities not only has a negative impact on the environment, but also poses a serious threat to human health. Contact with chemicals used in photographic processes can lead to a variety of ailments, including dermatitis, respiratory ailments, and in some cases — to oncological diseases.
The main ways of impact of photographic activity waste on human health are:
- inhalation path — inhalation of vapors and aerosols of chemical substances;
- contact path — contact with skin and mucous membranes;
- oral route — accidental or intentional consumption of contaminated food or water;
- transportation of photographic waste without observing safety rules can lead to the release of chemicals into the environment.
The effects of photographic waste on human health may include:
- acute chemical poisoning;
- chronic diseases of respiratory organs;
- skin diseases, including allergic reactions and dermatitis;
- diseases of the nervous system, which can manifest in the form of headache, dizziness, depression;
- oncological diseases arising as a result of long-term contact with carcinogenic substances.
Ways to reduce harm
Methods of ecological waste management of photographic activities include various approaches aimed at reducing the negative impact on the environment and human health. One of the main ways is the introduction of environmentally safe technologies that allow reducing the volume of waste and minimizing its toxicity.
Operations for the collection, sorting, crushing and processing (D13) of photographic waste must be organized in such a way as to reduce the risk of hazardous substances entering the environment. In addition, it is important to ensure proper transportation of photographic waste to avoid its spread and environmental pollution.
Among the main methods of reducing damage from photographic waste, the following can be distinguished:
- implementation of closed cycles of treatment of chemical substances, allowing them to be used multiple times;
- use of environmentally friendly chemicals that are less harmful to the environment and human health;
- development of new technologies for safe decomposition of photographic waste;
- organization of special waste collection points where they can be safely recycled or destroyed;
- increasing the level of awareness among employees of the photographic industry regarding the dangers associated with waste from their activities and methods of reducing them.
In addition, government regulation and control over compliance with environmental standards play an important role in reducing the damage from photographic waste. This includes both the development of new standards and their implementation in practice.

16.02.2024Nowadays, you can't trust responsible work to unverified people. It's not easy to make a choice, but we settled on this company, they have a license for operations on collecting, sorting, crushing and processing hazardous and many other types of waste. It was important for us to have a license for environmental waste management. It turned out that this is not the main thing. It is really convenient to work with you. Now that's what I call service. Thank you. We recommend.
