Black dross, also known as slag, is a byproduct of secondary metal production. These wastes contain various toxic substances that can cause significant damage to the environment and human health. Taking into account the increase in the volume of metal production, the problem of managing hazardous waste from black dross (slag) is becoming more and more urgent.
The process of secondary production of metals includes several stages at which black dross (slags) are formed. These wastes contain heavy metals, oxides and other dangerous chemical compounds. They are formed during melting, cleaning and casting of metals.

- recycling and reuse of dross in production processes;
- safe storage (D15) and transportation of waste;
- using filters to clean air emissions;
- control over the state of soil and water resources in the territories where waste is stored;
- educational work among the population regarding the danger of black dross (slags).
