Waste disposal sites are an important element of the infrastructure of any city. They provide storage of waste that cannot be recycled or incinerated. However, over time, these landfills begin to release leachate — a liquid that is formed as a result of the interaction of waste with water that penetrates through it. Leachate from landfills often contains hazardous substances such as heavy metals, organic compounds and other toxic elements.
Methods of environmental management of hazardous waste leachate from landfills containing hazardous substances are important to minimize its negative impact on the environment and human health. Lack of proper management can lead to soil and water pollution, which poses a serious threat to ecosystems and public health.

- monitoring of water and soil quality around landfills;
- implementation of measures to prevent rainwater from entering landfills.
