Mercury waste

Waste containing mercury is generated in the process of cleaning and transporting natural gas. This poses a serious environmental problem, as mercury is one of the most dangerous heavy metals that harms the environment and human health.

Mercury enters natural gas during the extraction and processing stages. In the process of gas purification, mercury is removed, but waste containing this toxic metal is produced. The problem lies in the need for proper management of such waste to prevent its negative impact on the environment.

The operations of collecting, sorting, crushing and processing hazardous wastes containing mercury after the purification and transportation of natural gas are extremely important to reduce their negative impact on the environment. The main stages of this process include:

• Waste collection: waste containing mercury is collected from the places of its generation by specialized companies. This allows you to avoid their spread in the environment.
• Waste sorting (D13): at this stage, the waste is sorted by mercury content and other characteristics, which allows choosing the most effective methods of its treatment.
• Waste shredding: waste is shredded to reduce its volume and prepare it for further processing. This facilitates transportation and reduces the risk of contamination.
• Waste treatment (D9): The waste undergoes specialized treatment to remove or reduce the mercury content. This may include heat treatment, chemical reactions and other technological processes.
